Government signs cybersecurity agreement with Microsoft

The government has joined Microsoft’s Government Security Program (GSP), which it said would help protect crucial national infrastructure from cybersecurity.

The mission of Microsoft’s Government Security Program (GSP) is to build trust through transparency. Microsoft recognizes that people will only use technology they trust and they strive to demonstrate their commitment to building this trust through transparency, privacy, compliance, and security principles. Since the program’s inception in 2003, Microsoft has provided visibility into their technology which governments and international organisations can use to help protect themselves and their citizens.

The GSP is designed to provide participants with the confidential security information and resources they need to trust Microsoft’s products and services. Ireland is joining over 45 other countries and international organisations represented by more than 90 agencies. Participation enables controlled access to source code, exchange of threat and vulnerability information, engagement on technical content about Microsoft’s products and services, and access to five globally-distributed Transparency Centers, which are located in the United States, Belgium, Singapore, Brazil, and China.

As Microsoft products are widely used by both government and private organisations. This new relationship between Microsoft and Ireland will be a critical facilitator in defending the State’s digital infrastructure from cyber attacks.
